Retired Colonel Vijay Rawat, brother of former CDS general late Bipin Rawat, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party a few days ago, will not contest the assembly elections. He has apprised the party leadership in this regard. Actually, BJP was preparing to field Colonel Rawat in the assembly elections. It was also agreed to contest his election from Kotdwar or Doiwala seat. But at the last moment, Rawat has refused to contest the elections. If sources are to be believed, BJP can now field the daughter of CDS General Late Bipin Rawat in the electoral fray.
BJP sources said that Colonel Rawat has conveyed his wish to the party leaders on Sunday itself. During this, he also praised the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government. However, the BJP leaders are not saying anything officially in the context of Col Rawat’s refusal to contest the elections.
