Lalu Prasad Yadav’s bail plea dismissed by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the plea for bail of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The Rastriya Janta Dal (RJD) supremo had approached the Supreme Court requesting for bail on the grounds of acute health problems.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed its reply opposing the bail plea alleging that the bail was being requested under the garb of medical ailments. The CBI alleged that Yadav wants to pursue political activities before the elections and it also provided a list of 110 people who have recently visited him in jail. The list consists of the names of MPs, MLAs, Ex. chief ministers and senior advocates.

It was also brought to the notice of the apex court that an additional ground was stated before the Jharkhand High Court while requesting bail. The RJD supremo had sought bail to guide his political party for the upcoming elections.

The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi dismissed the petition stating that Lalu Prasad Yadav has served only 24 months from the 25 years of imprisonment punishment awarded to him.
